Nua Cuoi Calendar

Publiscation, Typography, Riso Printing

The Nua Cuoi Calendar Project combines traditional Vietnamese Dong Ho woodblock paintings with contemporary design to revive and raise awareness of this fading art form. Once popular for decorating homes during special events like the Lunar New Year, Dong Ho paintings have seen a decline in popularity due to poor marketing and a lack of adaptation to modern tastes. This project seeks to rekindle interest by blending the traditional art with bold, modern aesthetics that appeal to younger audiences.

Each calendar features a Dong Ho painting paired with a relevant idiom or location, helping the audience quickly grasp its meaning. In addition, the project includes seven postcards with detailed information about each artwork and its creator, encouraging a deeper appreciation and shareable experience. A poster featuring both the painting and calligraphy is also included in the calendar pack, offering additional decorative options.

The project uses bright riso printing and graffiti-inspired calligraphy to refresh Dong Ho paintings while maintaining their connection to the traditional woodblock method. This fusion of styles creates a dynamic visual appeal that engages younger audiences and promotes the appreciation of Vietnamese cultural art.
